The McKenna Long & Aldridge (MLA) Real Estate team offers multi-disciplinary experience that spans the spectrum of real estate development, investment and finance. With more than 65 real estate attorneys and professionals in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, and New York, MLA is positioned to assist clients with national real estate transactions from ground-up development of retail, commercial, and residential projects, to lender representations in large, complex loan closings, restructurings, and defaults to intricate, mixed-use development public-private partnerships.
With a client base that includes major financial institutions and corporations, as well as mid-sized and small businesses and government agencies, we forge close relationships with our clients, earning a place as trusted advisor on their teams. Representing lenders, developers, investors, cities, counties, redevelopment agencies, servicers, borrowers, property owners, and tenants, our project list includes landmark office buildings, large-scale retail roll-outs, hotels, mixed-use developments, master-planned communities, multi-family housing, health care facilities, restaurants, shopping centers, power plants and industrial facilities.
MLA offers a full range of capabilities related to commercial, industrial, and residential real estate transactions, including representation in project lending, REIT financing, subordinated debt and construction loans; capital markets, including conduits, mezzanine, loan servicing, and assumptions; real estate development, including acquisitions and dispositions, construction, and subdivisions; loan workouts and creditors rights; retail, commercial, entertainment, and office leasing; economic development, including tax incentives; and land use and zoning.
MLA has particular strength in financial restructurings, focusing on problem debt resolution consistently for the past 35 years. We have represented clients through many capital markets cycles and understand their needs in responding to and succeeding within those cycles. Particularly valuable in today’s uncharted environment is our ability to draw from MLA’s industry-leading Government Contracts, Governmental Affairs and Private Equity practices — offering an unparalleled group to advise our clients in navigating the challenges and opportunities of both the distressed capital markets and governmental intervention.
Legal 500 2010 ranked MLA as one of the leading real estate practices in Georgia and in California, highlighting the firm’s capabilities in real estate finance, including capital markets work and restructuring, and the formation of public-private partnerships in California.
Our Real Estate team is well respected for taking a sensible, business-oriented approach to the handling of client matters. We are aware that conducting business today requires a critical evaluation of potential risks, responsibilities, and rewards. Our role as a partner on the client's team is to provide practical and innovative solutions to the increasingly complex problems that arise in real estate transactions.
