PROFILE

Rupa G. Singh represents high-technology, biomedical, and manufacturing companies, as well as individuals, in complex civil and commercial litigation matters.  Representative cases in which Rupa has successfully litigated disputes ranging from contractual/licensing matters, trade secret misappropriation/unfair competition claims, legal malpractice issues, and intellectual property disputes are as follows:

  • Settled breach of contract claims against Mexican subsidiary of a renown international electronics and home appliance manufacturer.
  • Obtained summary judgment for international wireless carrier in a billion dollar case involving contracts for cellular tower management.
  • Resolved multi-million dollar malpractice case against renown law firm and individual partners involving complex insurance coverage issues.
  • Settled breach of contract and misappropriation of trade secret litigation for local natural gas company, including after private mediation.
  • Defeated class certification motion against Fortune 500 company involving unfair competition and false advertising claims.
  • Successfully defended Japanese pharmaceutical from competitor's claims of tortious interference, theft of trade secrets, and unfair competition.
  • Negotiated favorable settlement for top-ranked university in contract, patent licensing, and trade secret case involving technology transfer issues.
  • Obtained judgment for satellite and cable company and manufacturer in related patent infringement cases involving data broadcasting  patents.
  • Successfully defended Fortune 200 company in commercial package litigation matters alleging various federally preempted contract and tort claims.
  • Assisted in trial of shareholder derivative lawsuit against local pharmaceutical, and helped defend favorable judgment on appeal.

Rupa previously worked at Morrison & Forester LLP, where her pro bono advocacy won her annual awards from the San Diego Volunteer Lawyers Program.  Her contributions to the bar have since been recognized by the County Bar Association's 2007 "Service to Diversity" Award.  Rupa received her J.D. (cum laude) in 1999 from the New York University School of Law, where she was an associate editor of the NYU Law Review and published a Note on the role of international regimes in enforcing marine environmental laws.  She received her B.A. in both English and International Relations (magna cum laude) in 1996 from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and completed a thesis in international relations.  From 1999-2000 she also served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Irma E. Gonzalez, U.S. District Court, Southern District of California.
