PROFILE

Barbara Safechuck is a partner, in the Los Angeles office where her practice includes product liability, toxic tort and employment litigation.  Barbara is both an experienced litigator, who has obtained verdicts for the defense in jury trials, as well as a skilled negotiator and mediator.

Barbara’s prior health care background and experience gives her an edge in working on a wide range of medical issues that arise in product liability and toxic tort matters.  She is skilled at developing medical expert testimony and working closely with experts.

Barbara’s civil litigation practice also includes the representation of management in a wide variety of employment matters, including wrongful termination, employee discipline and best practices, discrimination and harassment.  Barbara obtained a defense verdict for a Gaming Industry client in a workplace discrimination lawsuit.  She has also defeated claims for unpaid wages and overtime in proceedings before the California State Labor Commission.

Barbara’s class action practice involves both mass tort and wage and hour claims.  She was part of the successful team that defeated a motion for class certification brought by current and former employees claiming silica/toxic dust exposure during the tunnel drilling at Yucca  Mountain, the nation’s proposed site for spent nuclear fuel.  Barbara has also litigated a class action matter brought by casino employees claiming the casino failed to pay overtime and provide adequate meal and rest breaks.  Barbara postured the case for early mediation and successful resolution, thereby significantly minimizing defense costs.
