PROFILE

Peggy Binzer is a partner in the firm’s Government Affairs practice in Washington, DC.  She is an experienced public policy and legal counselor who focuses on a variety of issues relating to food, dietary supplements, pharmaceuticals, food defense, medical devices, biotechnology, veterinary drugs, biodefense, pandemic influenza planning and patient safety. In her role with McKenna Long & Aldridge, she concentrates her practice on healthcare and matters relating to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Previously, Peggy served as Senior FDA Health Counsel to the Senate Budget Committee where she was a primary advisor to Chairman Judd Gregg. She acted as lead staff on many pieces of high profile legislation including:

  • S.3, The Biopreparedness Act - the leadership bill on the War on Terror
  • The Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act
  • Food and Drug Administration Revitalization Act
  • The Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005  
  • The Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004
  • The Mammography Quality Act of 2004
  • The FAIR Act (Asbestos Trust Fund)
  • Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act

Peggy has also served as counsel to the Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee where she advised then-Chairman Gregg on issues related to the Food and Drug Administration.  Prior to the HELP Committee, Peggy worked for seven years in multiple roles at the Food and Drug Administration including as Counsel to the Director of the Office of Nutritional Policy, Labeling and Dietary Supplements.  While with the Grocery Manufacturers of America as Assistant General Counsel, Peggy represented the grocery industry in the implementation of the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act.

Peggy received her B.A. Virginia Tech and her J.D. from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law, College of William and Mary where she was a staff member of the Administrative Law Review.
