Powell Moore to Become Latest Addition to National Government Affairs Practice

WASHINGTON, DC - (December 15, 2004) - Powell A. Moore, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs, will join McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP's Washington, DC office in the firm's national Government Affairs practice as Managing Director of Federal Government Relations on February 1, 2005. Mr. Moore joins Senator Zell Miller, who the firm recently announced will join the practice upon his retirement from the U.S. Senate. McKenna Long & Aldridge's national Government Affairs practice provides strategic solutions to matters involving the intersection of government and private enterprise in such areas as tax, international trade, homeland security and defense, government contracts, health policy, agriculture, higher education, energy and environmental regulation.

In this role at the Department of Defense, he has been responsible for serving as a liaison on behalf of the Secretary of Defense in his dealings with the White House, Cabinet Members, Members of Congress and the Department of State. Prior to joining the Department of Defense, he served as Chief of Staff for U.S. Senator Fred Thompson of Tennessee. Mr. Moore was also appointed Assistant Secretary of State for Intergovernmental and Legislative Affairs in 1982 and served as Deputy Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs for President Reagan in 1981. Additionally, he served on the White House staff under President Nixon and President Ford. A native Georgian, he began his Washington career in 1966 on the staff of Senator Richard B. Russell.
