The public health preparedness practice of law firm McKenna Long & Aldridge turned to Capitol Hill for its latest recruit, Peggy Binzer.

A former senior counsel to the Senate Budget Committee, Binzer will contribute her expertise on issues such as bioterrorism, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology as a partner at McKenna Long.

In the Senate, Binzer advised Budget Committee Chairman Judd Gregg, R-N.H., working on various legislation including the Biopreparedness Act (S 3) and the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act, which was folded into the fiscal 2006 Defense spending bill (PL 109-148). She also advised Gregg on issues related to the Federal Drug Administration when Gregg headed the Health Education Labor and Pensions Committee. Binzer worked at the FDA for seven years.

"Our public health preparedness practice has evolved from its roots in biodefense and homeland security to include pandemic and crisis management planning, EU public procurement, public-private partnerships and other areas of emerging health threats," said John Clerici, co-chairman of the practice. "Peggy’s involvement in the breadth of public health issues will enable her to provide essential counsel to the firm’s clients."
