PROPOSITION 65 AMENDED
California Legislature Passes SB 471
The California Legislature passed Senate Bill 471, a bill that amends California's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, better known as Proposition 65. The bill was passed in the Assembly on September 13, 2001, by a vote of 77 to 0 and in the Senate on September 14, 2001, by a vote of 32 to 3. Because Proposition 65 was legislated by initiative, the law could not be changed except by a two-thirds vote of both houses. The votes exceed the margin required. The bill has been sent to the Governor's office for signature. We understand he will sign this legislation, and that Proposition 65 thus will be amended soon.
