Tax-Exempt Organizations
The attorneys at MLA are experienced in representing trade associations, foundations, professional societies, public charities, social welfare organizations and other non-profit entities. With offices located in the heart of Washington, DC, we have developed skill in handling matters for these organizations, most of which are corporations recognized as tax-exempt under the Internal Revenue Code.
We assist our clients with a vast array of legal, financial and practical issues, such as:
- Entity formation and management
- Corporate matters
- Tax issues
- Government relations, lobbying and election law
- Insurance and antitrust matters
- Administrative, fundraising, transactional and IP issues
- Labor issues
- Litigation
- Political action committees
Our attorneys are regular speakers and writers on non-profit subjects, and serve on the Legal Section Council of the American Society of Association Executives, the National Center for Nonprofit Law, and in several sections of the American Bar Association, among other non-profit related organizations. MLA attorneys also serve as directors and officers of various public service/non-profit entities.
Higher Education
MLA attorneys also serve the Higher Education field in a number of areas, such as counseling universities on high technology issues and representing student affairs organizations around the country. We also negotiate media and broadcast rights on behalf of universities, and represent an athletic conference in enhancing its media placements on television and radio.
Our homeland security experience, with its broadened importance in our society, is becoming apparent to higher education institutions, who are increasingly concerned about security issues in their facilities.
