Challenge for Congress: What is Just Over the Horizon Regarding Tax Legislation

January 14, 2008
The Realities Behind the Upcoming Tax Reform
Atlanta, Georgia

The expiring Bush tax cuts, the deepening reach into middle income ranks of the Alternative Minimum Tax, a payroll tax system that no longer matches the demographics of Medicare and Social Security, the impact of a distant two-front war on the federal debt - these are just some of the potential challenges facing the next Administration and a Congress that will take its oath in just 13 months.  The weather report for business: a "perfect storm" is brewing which will result in a tax reform effort every bit as comprehensive and far-reaching as the 1986 Tax Act.  Back then, savvy businesses involved themselves early in the debate, and judiciously chose their Congressional champions, finding themselves a "seat at the table".  Where will you sit?

Featured Speaker
Thomas J. Donohue
, President and CEO, U.S. Chamber of Commerce
Since assuming his position in 1997, Donohue has built the Chamber into a lobbying and political force with expanded influence across the globe. The Chamber's lobbyists, policy experts and communicators have helped secure many legislative victories, including major tax cuts, more sensible workplace and environmental regulations and increased funding for transportation.
