Keynote Speaker: JIM SCHWEITER, MCKENNA LONG & ALDRIDGE Former General Counsel/Democratic Staff Director, Committee on Armed Services – U.S. House of Representatives
Mr. Schweiter served as the senior professional staff member and legal advisor to the committee’s ranking member and to the 27 other Democrat Members of Congress on the Committee. He was responsible for formulating and implementing legislative initiatives, strategy, and parliamentary procedure related to the annual national defense authorization act and other legislation. In addition, he served as liaison to the House leadership, House and Senate committees, the White House, the Department of Defense, industry officials and interest groups.
In light of current events, McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP and the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) will present leading experts in government affairs, government contracts and corporate investigations to analyze the legal issues and business practices that are most likely to attract Congressional scrutiny. Speakers will also explain Congress’ oversight motivations as well as the investigations and hearing process.
With the shift in balance of power in Congress, Democrats have clearly indicated their intent to increase legislative oversight. Defense and disaster recovery contracting will likely receive the most intense scrutiny, and Congress will focus on companies working in Iraq and those involved in Hurricane Katrina relief and reconstruction efforts.
