February 8, 2007
Washington, DC

Reminder: You are invited to participate in a briefing: Congressional Oversight and Investigations
-- What Corporate America Should Know

February 8, 2007
8:00 am - 10:30 am
McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP
1900 K Street, NW
Washington, DC 20006

In light of current events, McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP and the Contract Services Association (CSA) will present leading experts in government affairs, government contracts and corporate investigations to analyze the legal issues and business practices that are most likely to attract Congressional scrutiny. Speakers will also explain Congress’ oversight motivations as well as the investigations and hearing process.

With the shift in balance of power in Congress, Democrats have clearly indicated their intent to increase legislative oversight. Defense and disaster recovery contracting will likely receive the most intense scrutiny, and Congress will focus on companies working in Iraq and those involved in Hurricane Katrina relief and reconstruction efforts.

This Briefing will explore the working components and practical aspects of Congressional investigations and focus on the following topics.

·           What to expect from the 110th Congress -- the hot issues and political dynamics
of the key committees, their staffers, and their members

·            Procedures that govern House and Senate hearings

·            Strategies for heading off Congressional subpoenas and negotiating
             with committees

·            How to respond to Congressional subpoenas for documents, depositions, or
             hearing testimony

·            Dealing with disgruntled former employees, qui tam relators and other
             whistleblowers

·            Preparing witnesses for testifying before Congress

·            Testifying (or not testifying): What to do at the table?

·            Preparing for inevitable leaks and dealing with the press

·            Assessing and dealing with collateral effects of an investigation: civil and criminal
liability, administrative penalties, or suspension and debarment

·            Special problems facing executives and other individuals in navigating parallel
Congressional and criminal investigations and avoiding criminal referrals
